The Art and Business of Faux Finishing

[ Day One ] [ Day Two] [ Day Three ] [ Day Four ] [ Day Five ]

Learn Stone Faux Finishes

Students will learn basic stone preparation with application principles. Pattern layouts, visual elements, and directional flows will be discussed and practiced within the day three curriculum. Faux finished samples include...Petite Chateau and Egyptian Broken Stone. A field trip to an upscale cafe for lunch, designed and decoratively finished by Martin, will give students the opportunity to view faux finishing on a commercial scale.
Petite Chateau

Petite Chateau

This sandstone style wall finish was seen by Martin in one of his many trips to Europe. It was in a "small house" in Italy on the walls throughout. He returned to the studio to replicate it, and now it is one of the hottest selling finishes his students market. It has tremendous depth and looks heavily textured, but in reality, has very little physical texture.

Egyptian Broken Stone

When mortars and fabrics were used together to "make" walls stronger before plaster and drywall, Martin has created a finish to imitate such. By using fabric as an underlaying layer within the "breakaway stone" finish, one can actually see the constuction of the original layers within the finish. This intense faux finish is one of Martin's "Signature Finishes".
